Pale Yellow Calla Lily

Calla Lily - Botanical Perfection - Photography

I bought this amazing calla lily plant for a friend. It was so beautiful that I almost kept it for myself. But, since it wouldn't have been very nice to show up to her house warming party empty handed, I settled for capturing it in photos instead. Good thing because I already have so many plants, I can barely keep up with the watering and maintenance.

In any case, here is an example of the pure magnificence of this stunning flower.

Selling on Etsy

EKphotoArt Etsy Shop
My Etsy Shop
Selling on Etsy is a new way of promoting my work. I've seen many successful artists sell prints on Etsy and I've had some great feedback on my work from artists, photographers and art lovers. So why not!

Until now, I have used third party print and stock services to sell my art photography but as my youngest child starts kindergarten this September, I want to expand my horizons and sell prints that I personally send out to buyers. Being in direct control of how the finished product comes out is a very appealing concept. I mean, what else am I gonna do with all the extra time? What I love to do most, of course: Take beautiful photographs and sell them!

So far the Etsy process is simple but with many possibilities that all will determine my potential exposure and therefore success as an Etsy seller. Still in the beginning stages, I've uploaded a few images and am trying different approaches. I know that it's best to keep different art styles separate so I may have to open a couple of shops for prints, downloads, landscapes and florals, but for now, in the learning process, I plan to keep it simple and just have one shop with multiple sections.

Etsy.com is very user friendly and offers many options to personalize your shop. All you need is some good quality photos of your product and anyone can start a shop. The key element is be active! Make sure to make connections with other Etsy sellers and upload new listings regularly. Also, be personable and approachable. A great profile photo will go a long way. These are some tips I have picked up in my early stages of research. I plan to keep you updated as I find out more :-) And if you already have some secrets you want to share, please comment!

In the Moonlight - Downtown Vancouver Night Photography

Night time photography in color and black and white

With the right equipment and knowledge, night photography is truly magical. I have been wanting to try some after dusk city scapes for a long time and finally did at the end of a fun spring break day-trip with the family. This landscape photo of Burrard Bridge was taken at Sunset Beach, downtown Vancouver. I hope you enjoy seeing these as much as I enjoyed capturing and editing them!

Black and White Fine Art Photography Video

My second YouTube video!
- this time my most popular Black & White Fine Art Photography

This video includes black and white, sepia and duo-tone photography on which I have received the most positive response.

Black and white fine art photography is not just popular because it adds a classy touch to any room's interior design, but it also tends to bring back memories and make people feel nostalgic. This can add an emotional touch to your home while making you look like a chic and sleek designer.
This classic style of fine wall art compliments all interiors from modern rooms filled with bright color, to minimalistic ones with clean lines and tons of open space, to traditional homes full of antiques.

The Making of a Fine Art Photography Video

My first YouTube photography video!

I thought about putting together some YouTube videos for quite a while but I always assumed it would be a bit complicated. Fortunately, it proved to be a fun process. For this very first video I decided to just put some of my favorite images together and see where it takes me. I used Windows Live Movie Maker, drag and dropped my best landscape photography and chose from a few simple options. When finished, I uploaded to YouTube and found that they even let you choose from a library of music to accompany your photo video. Well, this was a very welcome surprise to say the least! I hope you enjoy it.

Orange Gerber - Photography

Photos of Subtle Complexity
- Gerber Daisies

Feast your eyes on yet another one of nature's gifts this first day of spring. Though a common flower, when brought to an extreme close up, the gerber daisy's countless petals give it an unusual complexity and unbounded beauty very appropriate for today.

Happy First Day of Spring 2013!

Spring Flower Photos Part 2 - Tulips

Images Of Spring

If you're in a particularly cold or wet (like me) part of the world right now, these precious beauties might just brighten your day as they have brightened mine! They lit up my kitchen so beautifully I could not help set up a shoot and photograph them.

As spring approaches tomorrow I see myself and others around me finding joy in the little signs of spring like delicate buds starting to emerge everywhere or even simple bouquets of flowers at the local supermarket. These did come from a market, but they help remind me of the wonderful tulip gardens about to show up at all the parks and front yards. Enjoy!

Spring Flowers - Crocus

Nature Photography Prints - Crocus Spring Flowers

Spring is Coming!
And a photo to prove it :-)

Much to my excitement that spring is coming, a small batch of light purple crocus popped up unexpectedly in front of my house. These crocuses were so pretty I instantly wanted to photograph them. I thought, pick a couple and shoot them inside since outside was quite cold and I really like to be warm. But, when I brought them in and put them in some water, right away their perfect petals began to warp and point in all different directions. Somehow I didn't like the the composition of these random petals so I gently bent them down and got this beautiful result of a ball of a flower. So unexpected and lovely. I decided to set my camera to a very narrow depth of field for maximum effect and voila. A soft, silky flower that used to resemble a crocus now this sweet little ball of beauty.

A Day in Whiterock (part 3) - Minimalism

To continue my 'A Day in Whiterock' series, I've included two unique photos with minimalistic qualities both in color and composition. This day the water was calm, light was bright and the clouds were low, enabling me to easily process these with enhanced highlights and shadows.

The final result of 'Paddle Surfing' makes this photographs one of my favorites as these guys synchronize so perfectly for the shot. Also, notice the tiny ship in the distance as it balances this image completing the composition.

This minimalist photo is all about subtle color and texture. This time the cool feel of the shot is gently balanced by a warm glow of hints of pink in the sky complementing the grey blues of the water.

A Day in Whiterock - The Pier (part 2)

As a continuation of part 1 of my 'A Day in Whiterock' series, here is a photo I originally processed in black and white due to the dreary grey atmosphere that day. Originally, I just used the default camera proportions but later decided to crop it to improve composition. Though, I still like the black and white version, I decided to see what I could to bring some life into it and went for a full color version. Check out both of the final versions I went with and feel free to leave a comment about each one.

A Day in Whiterock - The Pier (part 1)

This was one of those unusual days when the photography stars must have been aligned because almost every shot turned out great. In this first part of the 'A Day in Whiterock' series of posts, I show the pier from some unusual angles and in some unusual light.
